Gearbox repair

We remove jerks and delays, restoring smooth shifting

About the service

The gearbox sends torque to the wheels. We remove jerks, delays and noise, restoring smoothness from oil changes to repairing autos, manuals and CVTs.

Why it matters

Why your car needs it

01

Overheated gearbox oil speeds up wear of clutches and bearings even before any fault codes appear.

02

Running the gearbox on dirty oil shortens component life and can cause a failure at the worst possible moment.

03

Electronic and hydraulic faults turn into mechanical damage over time.

Get your gear changes smooth again

Great workshop. They found why my parking lights weren't working – simply oxidised contacts. Cleaned them and didn't even charge me. Recommend!

That's marketing language, not engineering. The fluid ages with heat, and overheated fluid is exactly what kills the clutch packs. We recommend changing it with the filters every 60,000–80,000 km – many times cheaper than rebuilding the gearbox.

Not always. The cause is often contaminated fluid, the valve body or the electronics – all cheaper than mechanical repair. That's why we start with diagnostics rather than opening the gearbox.

In a CVT it's the pulleys and the belt (or chain) that wear, and they're highly sensitive to heat and aggressive driving. The repair is more complex and the parts cost more – so with a CVT it really doesn't pay to ignore the first symptoms.

Better not to. Every trip with a failing gearbox puts metal debris into the fluid, and it spreads through the valve body and the channels. What a fluid change and valve-body repair fixes today can turn into a full rebuild in a month.

A fluid and filter change takes a few hours. Valve-body repair, one to two days. A full automatic or CVT rebuild starts at several days, depending on parts availability. We give you the timeframe after the inspection.

Yes – modern automatics and automated gearboxes need adaptation through the dealer protocol after repair. Without it the gearbox shifts incorrectly, however flawless the mechanical work was.

Gearbox repair at RemZone

The gearbox is, without exaggeration, one of the key assemblies in a car. Smooth running, sensible fuel consumption and overall driving comfort all depend on it working correctly. Sooner or later every car, even the most expensive, needs gearbox work. It is a fairly complex job, especially with an automatic, because it involves an electronic control element.

At our RemZone workshop in Warsaw we carry out full servicing and repair of automatics, DSG, manuals and CVTs, for passenger cars and vans of every make. We always try to find the best approach for the design and technical specification of your particular car. For that we have modern equipment and highly qualified specialists.

How a gearbox repair is carried out

Finding a good workshop that would do a proper gearbox repair used to be difficult, particularly in the Polish capital. Today that is no longer a problem – there are many good workshops here. RemZone is one of them. We carry out the full range of diagnostic and repair work and guarantee our services. Our prices are reasonable too.

A gearbox repair involves a whole set of procedures. Exactly which ones depends on the type of gearbox (manual, automatic, dual-clutch or CVT) and the nature of the fault.

At our workshop the repair work covers:

  • Gearbox diagnostics. Computer-based diagnostics and a visual inspection of the unit, checking the level and condition of the transmission fluid, and checking for noise, jerking, slipping and delayed shifts.
  • Removal and disassembly. The unit is taken out, the fluid drained and the components removed (driveshafts, clutch, flywheel, valve body). The gearbox housing is then completely stripped and the parts cleaned. Bearings, gears, synchronisers, clutch packs and the valve body are inspected for damage and serviceability. A list of damaged parts is drawn up from the inspection.
  • Repair and replacement work. At this stage bearings, seals, gaskets, gears, synchronisers and couplings are usually replaced. On an automatic, the valve body, solenoids, clutch packs and CVT belt may also be replaced. Where needed, the housing is repaired and the shafts are ground. CVT fluid is replaced if required.
  • Reassembly and adjustment. The unit is rebuilt with new gaskets and seals. All clearances are adjusted, bearing preload is checked and shift operation verified.
  • Refitting the gearbox to the car, filling with fluid, and adjusting the clutch linkage and cables if a manual gearbox was repaired.
  • A final test drive.

The benefits of regular gearbox servicing

To make gearbox failures less likely, drive the car considerately. Specialists advise against high revs when pulling away, recommend regular fluid changes and warn against holding the clutch pedal down for long periods.

Regular servicing, in turn, prevents serious faults developing, extends the life of the transmission, reduces fuel consumption and keeps driving comfortable and safe.

How do you know it is time for gearbox diagnostics and repair?

The tell-tale symptoms are: unusual noise and vibration, difficulty changing gear, and transmission fluid leaks. The problem may turn out to be simple and a full automatic gearbox rebuild unnecessary – a fluid change or other minor work may be enough, and that will not break the bank. As a precaution, specialists recommend diagnostics every 30,000–50,000 km.

Why RemZone?
